BIG THINGS in a small town
Casey, Il is know for BIG THINGS and they have a lot of BIG THINGS! Many certified by Guinness as the BIGGEST in the world.
- Wind Chime – the first BIG thing
- Rocking Chair
- Bird Cage
- Teeter Totter
- Mouse Trap – damn pepsi drew EM right in
- Chevy Key
- Pencil
- Ruler
- Golf Club
- Golf Tee
- Taco
- Mailbox – that we mailed postcards in and raised the flag!
- Pitchfork
- Knitting Needles
- Crochet Hook
- Barber Shop Pole
- Wooden shoes (Dutch clogs )
The most interesting thing is that each BIG THING has a Bible scripture associated with it that is relates to the THING. The Ruler – ‘the way you judge others, so will you be judged. the measure you used, it will be measured to you.’
Clever concept.
Lovely, well maintained town. Beautiful purple Victorian lady just past the rocking chair. Lots of small shops for coffee, ice cream, and the best Tetzel in the world (pretzel).
Every person sitting on their porch to catch the breeze and escape the heat waved at me. Haven’t been waved to by so many folk since I was a young lad in Newberry Township. Everyone waved. Acknowledged your presence. Glad to see you, glad to be seen.
Camping in the Fairgrounds was safe and peaceful. Had a nice meal with the ACA (Adventure Cycling Association) that is doing pretty much the same route across the country as we are. Nice folk also. They’ve been looking out for EM while she’s on the road.
They know me when I pass them on the road because I’m one of the few drivers that slow down, put on my blinkers, and get on the opposite side of the road just like you’d pass any other vehicle. They appreciate it. I don’t want to hit a fellow traveler.
Casey, IL. An AWESOME small town. Hitting above their weight. Stop in if you’re ever in the area.
Just a few miles out of town is Moonshine Store – delicious burger! We sat outside in a picnic grove that took me back to church picnics and fall corn soup fun raisers at the Newberrytown EUB (before it was paved and most of the trees removed). Take a trip off the beaten path!
